They say she’s creaky and she’s kooky, mysterious and spooky…
And now she finally has a show.
This highly anticipated, new interpretation or representation of The Addams Family is set to premiere on Wednesday of curse course, November 23.
This supernatural, dark comedy, based television series, stars Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams and is directed by none other than Tim Burton.
Well, he is one of the featured directors, for 4 of the episodes. Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall occupy director duties as well for their own respective episodes, and this series was written by April Blair, Kayla Alpert, Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Matt Lambert.
From the looks at early previews, the story begins as its eponymous character has gotten herself expelled from her ordinary school and is forced to go to Nevermore Academy, a school serving as a home to what would be perceived as “outcasts,” essentially the show’s representation/identification for non-humans such as vampires, werewolves, sirens, etc.
Wednesday is the star of the show, but her prominent and just as famous relatives will make appearances throughout the series.
Luis Guzman stars as Gomez Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, George Burcea as Lurch, and there are various other characters who appear as well.
The show would not be complete without an appearance from former Wednesday Addams portrayer, Christina Ricci, who in this series, portrays the character, Marilyn Thornhill.
Interesting to note how will the series play out.
It appears to be a coming-of-age story, but how much will this representation borrow from the original iterations of the creator, Charles Addams?
Will we see a more modern approach, will it mimic certain elements from the popular series of movies from the 90s?
From early glances, there may be parallels with another popular, Netflix produced supernatural horror series of recent years, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Perhaps Wednesday will fill the void left by the popular series.
Maybe this new introduction of the famous family across the streaming platform, will tackle new, innovative storylines.
There may be a mix of horror, menacing playfulness and humor with this series and colorful cast of characters.
Looking forward to Wednesday.
